Freedom isn't free: A Memorial Day message from Mark Smith

May 25th, 2009Comments Off

Today our nation observed a minute of silence at 3 pm EST, as requested by the President of The United States. I sat on my couch and wept as I watched a live feed from Arlington Cemetery and saw veterans and their families honoring their fallen family members. Most impactful was seeing the children of fallen service members of our current battles laying flags and flowers on mommy’s and daddy’s grave site.

If you have not yet observed a moment of silence, I’m asking your do this as soon as possible. While you do, think about what it means to live in the land of the free. Even though times are tough for our country right now, I can tell you from first hand experience that what we have is precious. I’ve seen what it’s like in third world countries where people are literally starving to death, medical care is non-existent, and parents live in fear of their own government taking their children. I’ve seen countries where genocide and other atrocities are rampant. No matter how bad things might get here, we will always have the “American Dream”. Name one other country that has the word “dream” after it’s name. There aren’t any.

If you have served or do so now, I want to thank you. I also want to thank the families who have sacrificed their loves ones so my family can be free. It’s time for all of us to honor what you have done to keep the American Dream alive.

I believe the only thing that needs to be fixed in the United States is our love and passion for our country and our respect for those who serve. During past wars, our country came together like no other nation and we showed the world what happens when people unite in support of righteousness. Now is the time to help your fellow men and women. Now is the time to make a difference.

If you don’t think one person can make a difference, you are wrong. Harland Stonecipher is just one person but he and Shirley have affected the lives of millions.

Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. is leading the way towards empowering our nation to fulfill the dream we hold so dear. Our nation was built on a foundation of justice and freedom and we can all make a difference by ensuring that those who have and those who continue to fight to protect that freedom don’t do so in vain. We stand for equal justice under law and financial freedom. In the pursuit of these causes, let’s make every day count.

Successfully,
