Team Freedom mourns the passing of Paul J. Meyer
On Monday, the world lost a great man. Paul J. Meyer passed away at the age of 81 in Waco, Texas.
Paul Meyer lived an extraordinary life. His accomplishments in the world of business and philanthropy were remarkable. He touched the lives of millions.
Many Pre-Paid Legal Associates don’t know his name, but they should. He lived an exemplary life and was a mentor to many of the top leaders in Pre-Paid Legal. His life should be studied and his contributions remembered.
Mr. Meyer started or owned over 100 companies in his lifetime, but not held as much pride as his Pre-Paid Legal organization. He so admired Pre-Paid Legal, he recorded a video message a few years ago entitled, “The Greatest Opportunity in the World.” We all believe Pre-Paid Legal is the greatest opportunity in the world but when Paul J. Meyer says it, it really means something.
Mr. Meyer donated 50% of his PPL earnings to his foundation and other charities totaling millions of dollars. He also contributed over 400 Million dollars to a battered women organization that he started, and college scholarships for hundreds of individuals.
For each of the last 7 years, I attended an annual retreat at his conference center in Salado, Texas. That experience helped to develop my business and personal philosophies and I credit much of my success to his teachings and friendship.
Paul Meyer instilled in Tammy and me a sense of the responsibility that goes with the role of a leader. Through him, we learned that not only can we make a profound difference in the world but that we must. By his example, Tammy and I were inspired to start the Freedom Foundation, which, under the guidance of Mr. Meyers most trusted advisors, will continue to make a difference in the world. On behalf of Team Freedom, we commit to emulate Paul Meyers’ belief in the power of a positive attitude, his dedication to serve, and his unequaled generosity.
The world owes Paul J. Meyer a debt of gratitude for his many contributions. Please sign the guest book for his memorial.
